Through the month of May, all proceeds from our sales of oriental rug pads will be donated to the Nepolese people who have been affected by the recent earthquakes. The following is a letter from Sangpo, one of valued employees who works in our Boston showroom:
I am Jangbu Sherpa, former president of the Greater Boston Nepali Community and currently an adviser.
On April 25, a 7.8 magnitude earthquake hit Nepal. More than 10,000 people are known to have died in the quake, with more than 20,000 people injured. Millions of houses have been destroyed or damaged across the country. People need tents, water, food, cloth and medicines. Currently there is a monsoon in Nepal and people are getting very sick due to torrential rain and young children are getting pneumonia.
Due to the earthquake, half a million people have become homeless, some have lost their family members and some are still missing. There are basic needs for food, water, clothing, shelter and emotional support.
With the funds raised from Landry & Arcari, earthquake victims will be provided with these basic needs through my brother-in-law, Nurbu Lama who is currently in Kathmandu and is already actively helping earthquake victims. We have decided to start with the people of Lapsiphedi, a small village in Kathmandu, Nepal. Total population for this village is more than 6,000 people and many houses have been damaged.
Thank you for your support!
Jangbu Sherpa (Sangpo)
