This Persian rug features the traditional Serapi design, with tribal influences that are characteristic of the northwest region of Persia. Dating back to circa 1910, this antique piece is woven with wool on a cotton foundation. The creation of Serapi carpets such as this one highlights the rich cultural heritage and the art of Persian rug making, preserving time-honored weaving techniques.
The background of the rug is rust, which provides a robust and warm foundation for the design elements. The border is navy, offering a striking contrast that frames the overall pattern. The main color palette is dominated by red, enhancing the visual appeal and depth of the rug. The Serapi design is known for its large-scale motifs and angular patterns, often featuring a prominent central medallion. In this rug, the central medallion is elaborate, embellished with a mix of floral and geometric designs, serving as a focal point.
Floral and tribal motifs are abundant throughout the rug, with acanthus leaves being a notable pattern that sets it apart. These designs are meticulously spaced, allowing the background to play a significant role in balancing the visual composition. The overall design is rich and intricate, with vibrant colors that include hints of green, soft pink, and gold to add further depth.
The borders are another defining feature, with the main border being broad and elaborately decorated in a red hue with repetitive floral and geometric motifs in contrasting colors. Several narrower inner borders contribute their distinct patterns and color schemes, primarily in lighter and darker tones, seamlessly integrating into the larger design.
The rug demonstrates radial symmetry, with patterns mirroring each other along both horizontal and vertical axes. The symmetry extends to a quadrilateral balance, ensuring a harmonious layout across the entire rug. The durability of the wool and the intricate craftsmanship make this antique Serapi rug a significant artifact from early 20th century Persia.

Don’t take our word for it

Last fall, my husband and I purchased a gorgeous silk from you for our Boston Condo. Based on the quality of your rugs and customer service, we decided to visit you again to purchase rugs for our Connecticut home. Luckily, we received your postcard about the tent sale and came home with two more stunning rugs.

I can't say enough good things about this store, especially Susanne and Breanna. I shop at many rug places as I am an interior designer looking for very specific rugs all the time. No one out there compares to this store and their wonderful Sales associates. Thank you Susanne and Breanna for all your help!

Over the past year we purchased three rugs, as well as carpet from L&A. Our experience could not have been more positive and we love what we purchased.
In addition, every single person
in the showroom was beyond helpful, knowledgeable and kind. It was truly a pleasure. Thank you!

Never have I enjoyed spending money as much as at Landry & Arcari!!! Thank you so much for your attention and guidance. The rug I chose grounds the furniture and makes the living room. It is so beautiful and I really appreciate all of your help.
