Originating from the Caucasus region, this antique Kazak rug, crafted around 1915, exemplifies the rich tribal style for which the area is renowned. Its foundation and pile are woven from wool, a common material in traditional Caucasian rug-making due to its durability and warmth.
The rug features a deep navy blue background, providing a striking canvas for the bold geometric and tribal designs that dominate its composition. Central to its design are multiple geometric medallions, arranged in a highly symmetrical layout along a central vertical axis. These medallions are complex in shape, resembling stars or flowers with pointed extensions and containing intricate interior patterns with a vivid color palette. The dominant colors within these medallions are green and red, complemented by accents of blue, white, and yellow, enhancing the visual complexity and depth of the design.
Adding to the rug's visual appeal is a densely packed field filled with smaller geometric motifs that echo the shapes and patterns of the central medallions. The intricate detail work showcases the skill and artistry of the weaver, reflecting traditional Kazak design elements that tell cultural and historical stories through their forms and compositions.
The borders of the rug are equally detailed and consist of multiple layered bands. The outermost border features a repeating zigzag pattern in white, creating a visual frame that accentuates the vibrant central field. Rust tones dominate these borders, providing a warm contrast to the cooler navy background and adding a harmonious balance to the overall color scheme.
Dyeing techniques traditionally employed vegetable dyes, ensuring the colors maintain their richness and longevity. The craftsmanship involved in creating this rug is evident in its thick, durable pile, a result of meticulous hand-knotting methods favored by Kazak weavers.
This antique Kazak rug not only serves as a functional and decorative piece but also stands as a cultural artifact, encapsulating the historical and artistic heritage of the Caucasus region.

Don’t take our word for it

Last fall, my husband and I purchased a gorgeous silk from you for our Boston Condo. Based on the quality of your rugs and customer service, we decided to visit you again to purchase rugs for our Connecticut home. Luckily, we received your postcard about the tent sale and came home with two more stunning rugs.

I can't say enough good things about this store, especially Susanne and Breanna. I shop at many rug places as I am an interior designer looking for very specific rugs all the time. No one out there compares to this store and their wonderful Sales associates. Thank you Susanne and Breanna for all your help!

Over the past year we purchased three rugs, as well as carpet from L&A. Our experience could not have been more positive and we love what we purchased.
In addition, every single person
in the showroom was beyond helpful, knowledgeable and kind. It was truly a pleasure. Thank you!

Never have I enjoyed spending money as much as at Landry & Arcari!!! Thank you so much for your attention and guidance. The rug I chose grounds the furniture and makes the living room. It is so beautiful and I really appreciate all of your help.
