The antique rug originates from the Bijar region of Western Persia's Kurdistan, dating back to circa 1910. It features typical Bijar design elements and is woven in the tribal style, reflecting the robust traditions of Kurdish artistic expression. Specifically crafted with wool on wool, this rug is known for its durability and exceptional weaving techniques.
The main background of the rug is a deep, rich red, accented by a navy border. The patterns on this rug are dense and repeated, consisting mainly of a combination of floral and geometric motifs. Predominant motifs include rosettes, stylized flowers, and leaves, which are symmetrically arranged across the rug’s field. The colors used within the motifs include vibrant shades of blue, mustard yellow, white, and various tones of red and orange. These hues contrast effectively against the red background, highlighting the intricate designs.
The main border of the rug encompasses multiple layers, each containing intricate designs. The largest layer features a repeating floral pattern with alternating colors, while the inner and outer borders are smaller and showcase simpler geometric and floral designs. The border colors complement the central field yet are slightly more subdued, utilizing more blues and creams to achieve a cohesive look.
This Bijar rug is constructed with double-wefting, a characteristic technique that enhances its strength and resilience. The dense, double-layered weave contributes to the rug's texture and overall durability. Such technical quality is characteristic of Bijar carpets, making them highly esteemed for their robust construction.
Reflecting the cultural heritage and artistic traditions of the Kurdish people, this rug embodies the everyday life and craftsmanship inherent to the region. Bijar rugs are recognized for their unique design independence and expressive nature, making this antique piece a significant artifact of Kurdish weaving tradition.

Don’t take our word for it

Last fall, my husband and I purchased a gorgeous silk from you for our Boston Condo. Based on the quality of your rugs and customer service, we decided to visit you again to purchase rugs for our Connecticut home. Luckily, we received your postcard about the tent sale and came home with two more stunning rugs.

I can't say enough good things about this store, especially Susanne and Breanna. I shop at many rug places as I am an interior designer looking for very specific rugs all the time. No one out there compares to this store and their wonderful Sales associates. Thank you Susanne and Breanna for all your help!

Over the past year we purchased three rugs, as well as carpet from L&A. Our experience could not have been more positive and we love what we purchased.
In addition, every single person
in the showroom was beyond helpful, knowledgeable and kind. It was truly a pleasure. Thank you!

Never have I enjoyed spending money as much as at Landry & Arcari!!! Thank you so much for your attention and guidance. The rug I chose grounds the furniture and makes the living room. It is so beautiful and I really appreciate all of your help.
