Introducing our exquisite rug from Afghanistan, known for its rich cultural heritage and masterful craftsmanship. This particular rug belongs to the Gabbeh design, which carries tribal influences that beautifully reflect the ethnic Turkmen weavers, predominantly from the Esari Subtribe.

The wool used in this rug is sourced from sheep in the Ghazni Province of South East Afghanistan. The mountainous terrain of this region naturally produces longer staple, oily, and higher quality wool, ideal for carpet weaving. The raw Ghazni wool is then transported to the western side of Afghanistan, near Herat, where it undergoes a meticulous process of hand carding and hand spinning into carpet yarn.

Woven on traditional floor looms in the weavers' own homes, this rug showcases the highly skilled craftsmanship passed down through generations. The weaving technique involves an asymmetrical "Persian" knot type and is supported by a cotton warp and weft, with all-wool pile. The double wefted and heavily packed depressed warp weaving ensures the utmost durability, making it one of the most resilient handwoven carpets available today.

This gorgeous rug mesmerizes with its background in a captivating rust hue, perfectly juxtaposed with a striking blue border. The main color of this piece is a vibrant shade of red, derived from centuries-old all-natural dye stuffs. The use of natural indigo dye stuffs, obtained from the leaves of the indigo plant, creates the captivating blue tones found within the border.

To achieve the mesmerizing red color, natural madder root dyes are utilized. Madder root dyes, derived from the roots of the madder plant (scientifically known as Rubia tinctorum), have a long history of use as a dyeing agent. Cultivated for centuries in various parts of the world, madder root dyes yield warm and cool shades of red, orange, pink, and brown.

With a knots per square inch (KPSI) count of 104, this rug showcases the dedication and artistry of the skilled weavers. We calculated that this item has an astounding 225,341 individually hand-tied knots, a testament to the meticulous craftsmanship and attention to detail that went into its creation.

This new rug, measuring at 3'1" x 4'11", features a design that captivates with its tribal charm and history. Crafted with utmost care and utilizing the finest materials, this rug is a treasure waiting to adorn your living space with its timeless beauty and cultural significance.

Last fall, my husband and I purchased a gorgeous silk from you for our Boston Condo. Based on the quality of your rugs and customer service, we decided to visit you again to purchase rugs for our Connecticut home. Luckily, we received your postcard about the tent sale and came home with two more stunning rugs.

I can't say enough good things about this store, especially Susanne and Breanna. I shop at many rug places as I am an interior designer looking for very specific rugs all the time. No one out there compares to this store and their wonderful Sales associates. Thank you Susanne and Breanna for all your help!

Over the past year we purchased three rugs, as well as carpet from L&A. Our experience could not have been more positive and we love what we purchased.

In addition, every single person
in the showroom was beyond helpful, knowledgeable and kind. It was truly a pleasure. Thank you!
