The wool used in this rug comes from sheep in the Ghazni Province of Southeast Afghanistan, where the mountainous terrain provides the ideal conditions for producing longer staple, high-quality wool. This raw Ghazni wool is then transported to the western side of Afghanistan near Herat, where it undergoes meticulous hand carding and spinning into carpet yarn.

The weaving process takes place in the weavers' own homes, following the traditional floor loom technique. Using an asymmetrical "Persian" knot, this rug exhibits the expertise of the craftsmen.
