Originating from the Karabagh region in the southern Caucasus Mountains, the 1915 Caucasian Karabagh rug represents a classic example of tribal artistry. The intricate design reflects a long history influenced by various tribes in the area, showcasing a mix of floral and geometric patterns unique to Karabagh rugs. This particular piece displays a dense and intricate pattern executed in a navy background with a fuscia border, complemented by a plethora of colors including deep red, dark blue, light blue, pink, orange, and cream.

Crafted with wool on a cotton foundation, the rug exemplifies traditional double weft weaving techniques known for their stability and durability. The central field of the rug features numerous, densely packed geometric motifs, predominantly boteh or paisley shapes containing smaller designs like stars and flowers. The highly symmetrical and ornate pattern creates a detailed and vibrant appearance, with minimal empty spaces that highlight the weaver's skill and attention to detail.

Surrounding the central field are three distinct borders. The inner narrow border features small floral and geometric motifs in deep red, enhancing the connection between the central field and the outer elements. The main border, wider and more open in design, presents large-scale geometric floral patterns against a light blue field, providing a striking contrast to the detailed central field. An additional outer narrow border frames the entire composition, continuing the use of deep red with floral and geometric motifs, reinforcing the rug's cohesive aesthetic.

The rug remains rolled up at the top end, suggesting it has been preserved carefully over time. The use of natural dyes results in vibrant, lasting colors that contribute to the piece's rich visual impact. With a balance of functionality and artistry, this antique Karabagh rug embodies the cultural and aesthetic heritage of its origin, standing as a valuable example of early 20th-century Caucasian textile art.
