The rug originates from Mashad, a prominent city in Northeastern Iran known for its significant contributions to Persian rug craftsmanship. This particular rug, woven around 1920, exemplifies traditional Mashad design elements with a light blue background and a contrasting pink border. The main color is blue, with the rug crafted from wool on a cotton foundation.
Mashad rugs typically feature intricate and vibrant patterns, often designed along a medallion layout, though this specific rug's central medallion design is not as prominent. The floral motifs densely cover the central field, showcasing an array of stylized flowers, blossoms, and vine-like tendrils. These elements are symmetrically arranged, enhancing the overall balance and visual appeal.
The colors within the patterns include light beige, ivory, pink, and hints of dark brown and black, which add depth and contrast against the light blue backdrop. The pink border encircles the rug with an elaborate floral and vine pattern, while lighter secondary borders provide a framing effect that further emphasizes the central design.
The wool fibers used in this rug exhibit a distinctive luster and durability, typical of materials sourced from the Mashad region. This attention to material quality, combined with meticulous craftsmanship, makes Mashad rugs highly regarded in the antique carpet market. The combination of dense patterns and vibrant colors creates a continuous, intricate floral design that is both aesthetically pleasing and historically significant.
In terms of cultural and artistic heritage, Mashad rugs hold an important place in Persian history. They reflect centuries of weaving tradition and artistic evolution influenced by various cultural interactions. This rug, with its rich historical background and detailed craftsmanship, stands as a testament to the enduring legacy of Persian rug artistry.

Don’t take our word for it

Last fall, my husband and I purchased a gorgeous silk from you for our Boston Condo. Based on the quality of your rugs and customer service, we decided to visit you again to purchase rugs for our Connecticut home. Luckily, we received your postcard about the tent sale and came home with two more stunning rugs.

I can't say enough good things about this store, especially Susanne and Breanna. I shop at many rug places as I am an interior designer looking for very specific rugs all the time. No one out there compares to this store and their wonderful Sales associates. Thank you Susanne and Breanna for all your help!

Over the past year we purchased three rugs, as well as carpet from L&A. Our experience could not have been more positive and we love what we purchased.
In addition, every single person
in the showroom was beyond helpful, knowledgeable and kind. It was truly a pleasure. Thank you!

Never have I enjoyed spending money as much as at Landry & Arcari!!! Thank you so much for your attention and guidance. The rug I chose grounds the furniture and makes the living room. It is so beautiful and I really appreciate all of your help.
