Introducing our exquisite Afghani rug, featuring the distinctive sherkalou design. This tribal-style rug boasts an olive background with a navy border, adorned with a captivating green main color. Handcrafted with care, this rug is made from high-quality wool sourced from the Ghazni Province of South East Afghanistan, known for its mountainous terrain, which produces longer staple oily wool. The raw Ghazni wool is then brought to the western side of Afghanistan, near Herat, where it is hand carted and spun into carpet yarn.
Using traditional floor looms in the weavers' own homes, this rug is woven with an asymmetrical "Persian" knot type and features a cotton warp and weft, with a wool pile. The double wefted and heavily packed depressed warp weaving technique ensures unparalleled durability, making this handwoven rug a timeless investment.
With centuries-old, all-natural dye stuffs, this rug exudes authenticity and character. Its creation involves mostly skilled weavers from the Esari Subtribe, with exceptional craftsmanship concentrated in the Karam Kul district of Andkhoi, renowned for higher knot count weaving. The hand-spun single ply pern knot yarn adds further intricacy and charm.
Measuring 8'0" x 10'1" in size, this rug features a knots per square inch (KPSI) of 104, totaling a remarkable 1,199,069 individually hand-tied knots. Immerse yourself in the richness of Afghan culture with this exquisite Afghani rug, a testament to the artistry and heritage of its weavers.
